Investing.com -- Dubai-based carrier flydubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for 150 A321neo aircraft, marking the airline’s first partnership with the European aircraft manufacturer.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday at the Dubai Airshow 2025 by flydubai Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer, with flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith in attendance.

Sheikh Ahmed described the deal as a "landmark agreement" that supports Dubai’s economic vision and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. He noted that the acquisition would diversify the airline’s narrow-body fleet and strengthen its long-term expansion plans.

"This will enable flydubai to play a key role in the success of Dubai World Central’s expansion plans, an airport we aim to become the largest airport in the world," Sheikh Ahmed said.

The A321neo aircraft will support flydubai’s network development strategy and help meet growing demand across its markets. The carrier plans to use the new aircraft to access new destinations with greater efficiency and passenger comfort.

Christian Scherer of Airbus welcomed flydubai as a new customer, calling the decision "another endorsement of the added value Airbus brings in terms of range, efficiency and passenger comfort."

The A321neo is part of Airbus’s A320neo Family, featuring new generation engines, Sharklets, and cabin efficiency technologies that deliver over 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft.
