Fubotv earnings beat by $0.10, revenue topped estimates
Investing.com-- Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) on Thursday laid off hundreds of employees in the division that works on its Android software, Pixel smartphones, and Chrome browser, The Information reported on Friday.
The cuts come after Google had in January offered buyouts to employees in the division.
The Information report said the cuts were largely aimed at operational efficiencies, citing a Google spokesperson.
The layoffs come after Bloomberg reported in February that Google had cut roles in its cloud division, albeit by a limited number.
Google had slashed its global workforce by about 12,000 roles over the past two years, with layoffs aimed at managerial roles in order to improve efficiency. The layoffs also followed similar trends in other major technology companies, such as Meta (NASDAQ:META) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), as the sector scaled back some of the roles added during the low-interest rate environment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Google and its tech giant peers were also seen directing more resources towards their artificial intelligence ambitions.
