Investing.com-- Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) has reportedly offered signing bonuses of up to $100 million to lure OpenAI engineers, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Altman made the disclosure on the Uncapped podcast, hosted by his brother, stating that “they (Meta) started making giant offers to a lot of people on our team,” including bonuses reaching the nine-figure sum.
He added, however, that “so far, none of our best people have decided to take them up on that”.
The aggressive recruitment push is part of Meta’s broader strategy to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities, including the recent hiring of Scale AI’s CEO, Alexandr Wang, and a $14.3 billion investment in the startup to build its “superintelligence” unit.
Altman noted that Meta appears to regard OpenAI as its principal rival in the race to lead AI development.
