Investing.com -- Meta Platforms’ chief artificial intelligence scientist Yann LeCun plans to leave the social media company in the coming months to launch his own startup, according to a Financial Times report published Tuesday.

LeCun, a Turing Award winner widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern AI, has informed associates of his departure plans as CEO Mark Zuckerberg works to significantly restructure Meta’s AI operations.

The French-US scientist is reportedly in preliminary discussions to raise funding for his new venture, which will focus on advancing his research in world models, according to people familiar with the matter.

This exit adds to a series of departures and leadership reorganizations at Meta during what has been a challenging year for the social media giant.
