DoD tests AI models that make it easy to switch from vendors like Palantir
Investing.com-- Elon Musk’s SpaceX is seeking to deploy Starlink satellite terminals to support the U.S. Federal Aviation Administrations national airspace network, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
The FAA is already testing Starlink support in some regions of the U.S., the Bloomberg report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
But the report also raised some questions about a conflict of interest for the Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO, who was seen garnering increasing influence in the White House. Verizon (NYSE:VZ) was awarded a $2 billion contract in 2023 to upgrade critical U.S. communications infrastructure, although this could now switch over to SpaceX.
Starlink is the space-to-ground internet unit of SpaceX, and uses a network of low-orbit satellites to provide mobile coverage on the ground. The company recently announced a tie-up with T-Mobile US Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS) to provide satellite-based cellular coverage to consumers without the need for Starlink terminals.
