Street Calls of the Week
Updates at 04:25 GMT with share move
Investing.com-- Nintendo Co (TYO:7974) has asked suppliers to produce as many as 25 million units of its next-generation Switch 2 console by the end of March 2026, aiming for record first-year sales of the gaming device, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The Japanese company is pushing manufacturing partners to ramp up output following strong initial demand since production began late last year, the report said.
Tokyo-listed shares of the company jumped 2.7% to 12,480 yen as of 04:25 GMT.
Nintendo expects robust holiday sales and plans to adjust final production targets after assessing consumer response during the peak shopping season, the report added.
The ambitious plan suggests Nintendo could easily top analysts’ forecasts of 17.6 million units sold in the current fiscal year, with its assembly partners projecting shipments closer to 20 million, Bloomberg said.
The Kyoto-based firm has doubled its marketing budget since the console’s June launch to ensure momentum continues into 2025.
