Robinhood reports August 2025 customer and trading metrics
Investing.com-- OpenAI is backing the production of an animated film largely made using artificial intelligence, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, with the feature targeting a release in mid-2026.
OpenAI is lending its tools and computing resources to the production of “Critterz,” the brainchild of Chad Nelson, a creative specialist at the AI startup, the WSJ report said. The film will revolve around a group of forest creatures going on an adventure after their village is disrupted.
Nelson had earlier released a short film based on the concept, and is now teaming with production companies in London and Los Angeles to debut a feature-length film in about nine months.
Nelson plans for the film to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026.
The film has a budget of less than $30 million, much lower than budgets usually seen for animated features. The film plans to cast human actors for character voices, and has hired artists to draw sketches that will be touched up and built on by AI, specifically ChatGPT’s image generation models.
Success of the film could help further the notion that AI is a powerful tool that can be used for filmmaking, an idea that OpenAI has repeatedly attempted to push.
