Synovus Financial weighs merger options after drawing interest - Bloomberg
Investing.com-- ViaSat Inc (NASDAQ:VSAT) has been identified as a new victim in a sweeping cyber espionage campaign blamed on Chinese state-affiliated hackers, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The California-based satellite and wireless communications firm discovered the breach earlier this year and has been cooperating with U.S. authorities, the report said.
Viasat joins Verizon (NYSE:VZ), AT&T (NYSE:T), and Lumen Technologies (NYSE:LUMN) among companies previously confirmed to be targeted in the attack, Bloomberg reported.
The espionage effort, attributed to a group Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) calls “Salt Typhoon,” reportedly compromised millions of phone records, including those of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and members of both election campaigns.
In a statement, Viasat said it had investigated unauthorized access through a compromised device with the help of a third-party firm and found no evidence of customer impact. It did not comment on potential network breaches.
The FBI continues to lead the investigation and estimates the operation affected 1.3 million users. According to the Bloomberg report, much of the hacking activity is considered historical, though officials warn the threat remains persistent.
