Investing.com -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its 14-month investigation into Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Waymo self-driving vehicles without taking further action, the agency announced Friday.

The investigation, which began in May 2024, was prompted by 22 reports of Waymo robotaxis allegedly violating traffic safety laws or showing "unexpected behavior." Among these reports were 17 collisions involving the autonomous vehicles.

In its decision to close the probe, NHTSA cited two recalls that Waymo had already issued, as well as the agency’s own analysis of available data related to the incidents.
