Intel stock spikes after report of possible US government stake
Investing.com -- The United States exported approximately 30% of its domestic primary energy production in 2024, marking a significant rise compared to recent decades, according to data released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Tuesday.
The EIA reported that out of the record 103 quadrillion British thermal units (quads) of total primary energy produced in the U.S. last year, a record 31 quads were exported.
Almost all of these exports consisted of fossil fuels, which were shipped to countries across North America, Europe, and Asia, the agency noted.
The data showed that in 2024, the U.S. exported 55% of its domestic production of crude oil and natural gas plant liquids (NGPL). Additionally, around 20% of U.S. dry natural gas output and approximately 25% of coal production were sent overseas.
The EIA pointed out that energy production not exported does not necessarily equal domestic consumption, as the figure also includes energy imports and withdrawals from storage.
