Asia tech stocks slide tracking Wall St losses amid AI doubts, govt. uncertainty
Investing.com-- The Chinese People’s Liberation Army on Wednesday launched military exercises code-named “Strait Thunder 2025A” in areas of the Taiwan Strait, officially naming drills it had begun earlier this week, state news agency Xinhua reported.
The exercises are being conducted in the middle and southern areas of the Taiwan Strait, and are covering subjects including identification, verification, detention, joint blockades, and precision strikes, the report said, citing a statement from the military.
China kicked off military drills near Taiwan earlier this week, its latest round of aggression against the island, which it has repeatedly claimed to be part of its territory.
Beijing also issued a statement calling Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te a “parasite,” harshening its rhetoric against the island.
The exercises come in response to an Asia tour by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, during which he repeatedly criticized Beijing.
