Fiserv earnings missed by $0.61, revenue fell short of estimates
Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday ruled out running for the vice presidency in the 2028 U.S. election, an idea some supporters have suggested as a way for him to serve beyond his current term.
"I’d be allowed to do that," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "But I wouldn’t do that. I think it’s too cute. Yeah, I would rule that out because it’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It wouldn’t be right."
The 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits anyone from being elected to the presidency a third time. Some have proposed that Trump could circumvent this by running as vice president, then assuming the presidency if his running mate resigned - though legal experts have questioned the constitutionality of such a move.
Trump has previously hinted at interest in extending his time in office, even distributing "Trump 2028" hats at the White House.
When asked about the possibility of a third term, Trump said, "I would love to do it. I have my best numbers ever." When pressed whether he was ruling out a third term, he responded, "Am I not ruling it out? I mean you’ll have to tell me."
According to prediction market Polymarket, there is only a 7% chance Trump will announce a run for a third term.
During the conversation, Trump also praised Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential future candidates.
