Gold prices steady ahead of Fed decision; weekly weakness noted
Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump will visit the Federal Reserve on Thursday, the White House said, amid a public feud with Chair Jerome Powell and increasing scrutiny of the central bank’s renovation project.
Trump will visit the Fed in person at 16:00 ET (20:00 GMT), according to a schedule published by the White House.
A slew of top White House officials were set to visit the Fed this week, with Trump now personally joining their ranks. White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair said earlier this week that officials would visit the Fed amid heightened scrutiny of the central bank’s $2.5 billion renovation.
The visit also comes as Trump and his allies kept their attacks on Chair Powell, who the president has repeatedly criticized for not cutting interest rates as demanded. Trump had earlier hinted that he would fire Powell over any findings of fraud in the renovation project, which reportedly overshot its budget by $700 million.
Powell has so far flagged little intent to cut interest rates soon, citing uncertainty over the inflationary effects of Trump’s trade tariffs.
The central bank is widely expected to keep rates unchanged at a meeting next week, having kept rates steady so far in 2025 after cutting them by a total 1% in 2024.
