Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump announced Friday that a suspect in the Charlie Kirk assassination has been identified after being turned in by his father.
"I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him," Trump told "Fox & Friends" during a live interview at the cable giant’s Manhattan studio, saying he had received the information just minutes before his 8 a.m. interview.
Trump revealed that the suspect was turned in by his father through "a minister who was involved with law enforcement."
The New York Post said their sources identified the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah resident. Trump did not identify the suspect during his interview.
"I hope he’s going to be found guilty, and I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this," Trump said.
Investigators have scheduled a public update for later Friday morning to provide more information on the case.
