GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian shares inched up on Tuesday as traders awaited U.S.
retail sales data and more corporate earnings to gauge the
health of the world's biggest economy, with markets
remaining focused on a likely U.S. rate cut by the end of

WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil prices were steady on Tuesday after falling in the
previous session as output in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico
resumed after Hurricane Barry swept through over the weekend
and as U.S. shale production is expected to rise to a

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand firmed on Monday as bets the Federal
Reserve will cut interest rates next week continued to boost
the currency in the absence of any local economic drivers,
on a day dominated by ex-president Jacob Zuma's testimony at
a graft inquiry. NIGERIA STOCKS
Nigerian stocks .NGSEINDEX fell to a fresh two-month low
on Monday, led down by banks and heavyweight Dangote Cement

NIGERIA OIL
Nigerian state oil firm NNPC issued award letters on Monday
for highly sought-after contracts to exchange crude oil for
imported fuel, oil industry sources told

The Kenyan shilling KES= was stable against the dollar on
Monday with inflows from offshore investors buying
government debt reducing pressure from excess liquidity in
the local money markets, traders said. UGANDA MARKETS
The Ugandan shilling UGX= was unchanged on Monday amid
subdued activity on the demand side as most firms were
reserving their local currency holdings to meet mid-month
tax obligations, traders said. SECURITY
Ethiopia's Amhara Democratic Party (ADP) named the security
adviser to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as head of the restive
Amhara region on Monday after his predecessor was killed in
a violent attempt to seize power there. INFLATION
Prices of cooking oil and other basics soared in Zimbabwe as
inflation nearly doubled in June, data showed on Monday,
piling pressure on a population struggling with shortages
and stirring memories of economic chaos a decade
ago. POLITICS
A Zimbabwean opposition politician facing charges of
advocating the overthrow of President Emmerson Mnangagwa was
freed on bail by the High Court on Monday after spending six
days in detention, his lawyer said. ECONOMY
Zambian President Edgar Lungu abruptly fired his finance
minister on Monday, appointing in her place the respected
deputy head of the central bank, who said he might further
delay a sales tax designed to rebalance its
economy. EBOLA
Ebola's arrival in eastern Congo's main city of Goma
severely raises the risk of the virus spreading if it takes
root in this metropolis near the border with Rwanda, the
World Health Organisation (WHO) warned on
Monday. IVORY COAST
Rains were below average last week in most of Ivory Coast's
cocoa growing regions ahead of the October-to-March main
crop, while some areas were too cloudy, farmers said on
