SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand was steady in early trading on
Friday, after racing to its best in six months overnight
after the central bank kept lending rates unchanged and as
the dollar fell following downbeat U.S. data. Africa's stock market corrected sharply during the
week after a strong open on Monday as poor retail sales data
and a host of bleak company outlooks added to the effects of
weaker commodity prices and quarter-end profit
taking. AFRICA AIRLINES
South Africa has pledged 10.5 billion rand ($650
million) to South African Airways (SAA), one of the
administrators of the ailing state-owned airline said on
Friday. NIGERIA REVENUES
Nigeria's gross revenues inched up 0.8% in August to
682.1 billion naira ($1.79 billion) from the previous month
as a rise in VAT and corporate tax receipts helped offset a
drop in oil income, the government said. MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= was under pressure on Friday
due to demand from importers amid scarce dollar inflows, but
traders expected a central bank intervention to buoy the
shilling, they said. L8N2GF1N1
