Investing.com -- Anthropic announced on Tuesday it will offer its Claude AI model to the U.S. government for $1, as the Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).com-backed company joins other artificial intelligence startups seeking federal contracts.

The move comes shortly after Anthropic’s Claude, along with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Gemini, were added to the government’s list of approved AI vendors.

"America’s AI leadership requires that our government institutions have access to the most capable, secure AI tools available," Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said.

Anthropic’s offer follows a similar initiative from competitor OpenAI, which last week made its ChatGPT Enterprise available to participating U.S. federal agencies for $1 per agency for the next year.
