Investing.com -- Britain’s FTSE 100 index edged higher on Tuesday, lifted by strength in industrial mining stocks, as shares of Anglo American surged following the announcement of a merger agreement.

The blue-chip index FTSE 100 rose 0.2%, while the British GBP/USD edged 0.1% lower against the dollar to 1.3533.

DAX index in Germany fell 0.5%, the CAC 40 in France rose 0.2%.

FTSE movers:

Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shares climbed 9.1% in London and Teck Resources jumped more than 11% in U.S. premarket trading after the two miners unveiled an all-stock merger of equals that would form one of the world’s largest copper producers.

Under the terms of the deal, Teck shareholders will receive 1.3301 Anglo American ordinary shares for each of their own, giving the Canadian miner an implied value of about £30.39 ($41.20) per share, or roughly £14.86 billion ($20.17 billion), based on Anglo’s most recent closing price.

Shares of Mobico Group PLC (LON:MCG) tumbled more than 14% after the transport operator reported first-half adjusted operating profit below expectations and a widened statutory loss, though it maintained its full-year guidance.

The company’s adjusted operating profit dropped 12.7% to £59.9 million in the first half of 2025, falling short of a limited Visible Alpha consensus of £64.4 million. On a constant currency basis, the decline was 4.8%. Adjusted profit before tax fell to £19.8 million from £28.8 million a year earlier.

In other market moves, homeware retailer Dunelm Group PLC (LON:DNLM) fell 10%, landing at the bottom of the mid-cap index, after warning it has yet to see signs of sustained recovery in consumer demand.

Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) was up 1.8%, rebounding from a 7.6% decline in the previous session when it announced plans to rebrand as Standard Life in March 2026 and reported a larger-than-expected drop in book value due to market moves.

Gamma Communications PLC (LON:GAMA) initially rose, before closing the session over 3% lower despite its strong first-half revenue growth.

Computacenter gained 3.8% after flagging a strong start to the third quarter.
