UBS Points to Two Top European Luxury Stocks Ahead of 2026 Upswing
Investing.com-- Elon Musk said on Tuesday that Tesla’s robotaxi fleet should “roughly double” by December, as the electric vehicle maker pushes further into autonomous driving.
Musk’s comment was in response to a social media post calling for Tesla to increase its robotaxi fleet, amid several complaints that users were unable to get rides, or faced high waiting times.
Tesla rolled out a pilot robotaxi program in Austin earlier this year, followed by a service in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company also recently received a permit to operate a ride-hailing service in Arizona, but is still required to keep safety monitors in each of its robotaxis.
Musk in October said he expected Tesla’s robotaxis to begin operating without safety drivers in Austin later this year.
It was not immediately clear how many robotaxis Tesla is currently operating.
Musk has largely touted autonomous driving and artificial intelligence as the next big growth drivers for Tesla, especially as the company grapples with rapidly declining vehicle sales. Data released on Tuesday showed Tesla’s European sales nearly halved in October, while rival BYD (HK:1211) raced ahead.
