Investing.com -- Kevin Hassett, the White House National Economic Council Director, is emerging as the frontrunner to become the next Federal Reserve chair, according to Bloomberg News, citing people familiar with the matter.
The search for a new central bank leader is entering its final weeks, with Hassett viewed as a close ally whom President Donald Trump knows well and trusts. Sources speaking on condition of anonymity indicated that Trump sees Hassett as someone who would bring the president’s approach to interest rate cutting to the independent central bank.
Hassett is reportedly closely aligned with Trump’s economic views, particularly regarding the need to lower interest rates - a position Trump has long advocated.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded with a statement saying, "nobody actually knows what President Trump will do until he does it. Stay tuned!"
