The Chinese central government has announced plans to draft a strategic document for the development of Web 3.0. The initiative aims to foster the growth of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and dApps.
The country will emphasize advancements in cross-chain capabilities, privacy computing, and smart contracts. They are also focusing on promoting the development of decentralized identity (DID) technologies.
This announcement follows as a response to Proposal No. 02969 of the First Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The Ministry outlined a comprehensive roadmap to facilitate the progression of Web 3.0 within the country.
One of the primary objectives is to enhance the top-level design of Web 3.0, aligning it with the national conditions of China. The Ministry plans to develop a dedicated strategy document for Web 3.0, with the goal of clarifying the development path, technical focus, and application model.
Special attention will be given to addressing issues related to inheritance and innovation, development and security, government and market, and supply and demand relationships.
The strategic roadmap also places a strong emphasis on strengthening technical research and supervision. The Ministry aims to support entities in achieving breakthroughs in key core technologies, including cross-chain, privacy computing, and smart contracts.
Additionally, research on blockchain security supervision and governance technology is in the pipeline, exploring a technology architecture that accommodates both public and alliance chain characteristics.
International collaboration is a key component of China’s Web 3.0 strategy. The Ministry encourages participation in global standardization activities related to Web 3.0, aiming to promote international standards.
To increase awareness and understanding, the Chinese government plans to utilize existing platforms for science popularization and official new media platforms. As China unveils a comprehensive roadmap for Web 3.0, the move is expected to significantly contribute to the global landscape of blockchain technology and decentralized applications.
