  • Elon Musk warns that AI poses a civilizational risk and could “kill us all.”
  • Meta, Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, and IBM CEOs agree that the government should oversee AI.
  • Congress faces the challenge of balancing AI’s advantages with societal hazards

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has articulated profound concerns surrounding the risks associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Musk expressed the concern while addressing reporters following a recent U.S. Senate hearing on AI.

Musk remarked:

There’s some chance – above zero – that AI will kill us all. I think it’s low, but there’s some chance. The consequences of getting AI wrong are severe.

According to a CNN report, the AI-theme meeting aimed to reach a consensus as the U.S. Senate prepared to draft legislation to regulate the rapidly evolving AI industry. The attendees were CEOs from Meta, Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, and IBM.

Interestingly, the report revealed that all participants unanimously raised their hands in agreement when asked whether the federal government should have oversight over AI. As Coin Edition reported, this team of tech giants recently united to establish an AI governing body.

It is worth mentioning that the formidable challenge facing the U.S. Congress lies in striking a balance between harnessing AI’s advantages and mitigating its potential societal hazards. The CNN report highlighted that the hazards encompass technology-driven discrimination and national security threats.

Meanwhile, Musk believes that AI poses a “civilizational risk,” according to the report. Moreover, Musk underscored that the Senate hearing could go down in history as being a crucial part of the future of civilization.

Early this year, the tech billionaire renounced his love for crypto to embrace the AI revolution. In particular, he proclaimed that he used to be involved in the crypto space. However, Must said he has shifted his focus to artificial intelligence. In the past, Musk’s automobile firm, Tesla, accepted Bitcoin payment in exchange for its services.
