Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed for international cooperation in dealing with contemporary challenges such as cyber threats and cryptocurrencies. Modi appealed during the Commonwealth Legal Education Association and the Commonwealth Attorneys and Solicitors General Conference 2024.

In the event, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Modi focused on the need for unified justice delivery amidst increased interdependence in modern society. He particularly mentioned the importance of international cooperation to combat the complex network of transnational crimes while addressing the conference.

Modi further emphasized that efficient justice delivery in one country depends on effective partnerships with other countries. In addition, he noted that it also depends on building the capacity to understand the diverse legal systems and enhancing cooperation.

Furthermore, Modi expressed his belief that a collaborative system would speed up justice. He also believes it would ensure that jurisdiction acts as an instrument for delivering justice rather than a means to slow down the process.

While speaking, the prime minister raised alarm over the criminal syndicates’ global networks spanning different countries and regions. He identified the growth of cryptocurrency and cyber threats as 21st-century challenges requiring novel solutions. Hence, he proposed a total revaluation, reinvention, and reform of the current legal frameworks.

Modi proposed a flexible legal framework to adjust to current realities, providing a modernized justice delivery system. He further emphasized the need for legal education to improve justice delivery. He focused on inclusive policies on education that promote female participation in the legal profession.

Apart from his proposals, the prime minister highlighted his government’s project of repealing antiquated laws inherited from the colonial era. According to him, such laws could have served as a means of harassing citizens. He noted that such a decision by his government has improved the quality of life and ability to carry on business in India.
