  • A diverse jury has been selected for ex-FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried’s fraud trial.
  • A juror’s connection to the FTX-linked law firm was disclosed during the selection process.
  • The 12 people ultimately selected are to determine the fate of Bankman-Fried.

In a recent update regarding the trial of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), it has been revealed that a diverse group of 12 jurors has been carefully selected to determine his fate. These jurors were chosen from a pool of 45 candidates during the trial’s second day in Manhattan, New York City, United States.

According to an on-the-ground reporter, each prospective juror had a minute to introduce themselves, sharing details about their background, age, employment, education, relationship history, and children. Notably, one candidate mentioned that his wife had previously worked for a law firm that had provided services to FTX. However, the report mentioned that it was unclear if the juror made it to the final list.

Meanwhile, another juror was excused from service after disclosing her connection to a firm that had invested in FTX and Alameda Research. The presiding judge, Lewis Kaplan, held discussions with the prosecution and defense teams before announcing the final 12 jury members.

The jury’s composition is noteworthy, as it is predominantly female, consisting of nine women and three men. Their ages range from the early 30s to the late 60s, and their professional backgrounds span various industries, including health, finance, law, IT, and education. Five of the jurors have university-level education.

Following the jury selection, the prosecution and defense delivered their opening statements, and testimonies from individuals affected by the case were heard. The trial, expected to last six weeks, revolves around seven fraud-related charges stemming from Bankman-Fried’s role in the shocking collapse of FTX in November. As these events unfold, the fate of the former FTX CEO now rests in the hands of this diverse group of jurors.
