Ukraine proposes $100 bln US weapons deal for security guarantees - FT
Investing.com-- Ukraine has proposed a $100 billion U.S. weapons purchase, financed by Europe, in exchange for American security guarantees after a peace deal with Russia, the Financial Times reported on Monday, citing a document and people familiar with the matter.
The plan also includes a $50 billion partnership to produce drones with Ukrainian companies that developed the technology during Russia’s full-scale invasion, the report said.
Kyiv has expressed interest in buying at least 10 U.S.-made Patriot air defence systems alongside other missiles and equipment, according to the report.
The proposals come as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders press Washington to support a ceasefire before broader peace talks. U.S. President Donald Trump, who last week met Russian President Vladimir Putin, has said future support would involve selling, not giving, weapons.
The document stresses Ukraine will not concede territory to Russia and seeks compensation for wartime damages, potentially using frozen Russian sovereign assets in western countries, the FT report added.
