Investing.com -- The U.S. Senate is preparing to advance a bill next week that would impose sanctions on Russia and nations purchasing Russian oil and other goods. This development came to light on Friday, following discussions between Senator Lindsey Graham and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Graham, a member of the Republican party, visited Kyiv accompanied by Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat. During his visit, Graham criticized Russian leader Vladimir Putin for allegedly stalling the peace process.
Graham also expressed his skepticism over the second round of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine, which Russia proposed to be held on Monday in Turkey. He said he anticipates these discussions to be nothing more than a "Russian charade."
Ukraine has not yet confirmed its participation in these talks. The Ukrainian government stated that it wants to first review a Russian memorandum outlining Moscow’s proposals for a settlement.
