Oil prices hold sharp losses with focus on secondary India tariffs
Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Russia and Ukraine will “immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire,” following a two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Describing the tone of the discussion as “excellent,” Trump suggested the conversation marked a potential turning point in the more than three-year war.
“The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of,” Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social. He added that “Russia wants to do largescale TRADE with the United States when this catastrophic ‘bloodbath’ is over, and I agree.”
According to Trump, he has informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron of France, Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission, and Giorgia Meloni of Italy, of the development. He also said that “The Vatican, as represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations.”
While there has been no immediate confirmation from Moscow or Kyiv, Trump’s post positions him as a key broker in a potential diplomatic breakthrough. He emphasized that the economic prospects for both nations could play a decisive role in post-war recovery, writing, “Ukraine can be a great beneficiary on Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country.”
"Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately," Trump confirmed.
