UGANDA - The government hosts a meeting on public debt

management as rising borrowing in the region threatens to

weigh on economic growth.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian shares fell on Wednesday as a U.S. warning to

Americans to prepare for the possibility of a coronavirus

pandemic drove another Wall Street tumble and pushed yields

on safe-haven Treasuries to record lows.

WORLD OIL PRICES

Crude prices edged up on Wednesday as investors covered

short positions after three sessions of losses, even as

fears deepened that the rapid spread of the coronavirus will

lead to a global pandemic.

The South African rand weakened on Tuesday, reflecting

nervousness before a budget speech this week and global

worries about the spread of coronavirus.

The Kenyan shilling KES= was stable on Tuesday and traders

said it was likely to stay in a tight range due to limited

demand for dollars by importers.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina

Georgieva on Tuesday nominated former IMF official

Antoinette Sayeh, a Liberian national, to become a deputy

managing director at the Fund.
