Two National Guard members shot near White House
Investing.com-- Japan’s Asahi Group (TYO:2502) said on Thursday that personal details of about 1.52 million customers may have been exposed in a cyberattack that hit the company’s systems in late September.
The 29 September ransomware incident forced Asahi to suspend order processing, shipping, and call-centre operations for its domestic business, prompting a delay in its third-quarter earnings release originally scheduled for November 12.
The attacker group, calling itself Qilin, claimed responsibility for the hack on Oct. 9 and said it had exfiltrated files from Asahi’s internal network.
Asahi said production at its six domestic factories resumed within a week of the attack, but supply disruption early on led to shortages of its beverages -- including the flagship “Super Dry” beer -- at restaurants, bars, and retailers across Japan.
Asahi said it is working with external cybersecurity specialists to investigate the scope of any data leakage, and will notify affected customers if the investigation confirms unauthorised data transfer.
