Two National Guard members shot near White House
Investing.com -- Two members of the U.S. National Guard were shot near the White House Wednesday afternoon.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said the National Guard members have succumbed to the wounds, posting on X: "These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country." The National Guard personnel have been stationed in Washington, D.C. on orders from President Donald Trump to help address what has been described as a crime crisis in the nation’s capital.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: "The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!"
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that the DHS is currently working with local law enforcement to gather additional information about the incident. D.C. police already apprehended the suspect.
