Snap (SNAP) announced an expanded partnership with Google Cloud to integrate Google's Gemini AI into its popular My AI chatbot, driving shares up by 1% in premarket trading on Tuesday.
The strategic move aims to enhance the generative AI experiences offered to Snapchat's 850 million monthly users, which is expected to make interactions with My AI more engaging and versatile.
Snapchat's My AI chatbot will now leverage Gemini on Vertex AI. The company explained in its press release that the advanced technology will enable the chatbot to process and interpret multimodal inputs, such as text, audio, images, video, and even code.
They added that Snapchat users can now ask My AI to perform tasks like translating a street sign while traveling abroad or comparing the health benefits of different snacks using video input.
"Since Snapchat deployed Gemini on Vertex AI to support My AI, the company saw over 2.5x as much engagement within Snapping to My AI in the United States," said Snap.
Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, commented: "Now with Gemini in My AI, Snapchatters can learn so much more about the world, do it really quickly in the moment, and easily share that with friends."
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian also praised the collaboration, highlighting Snap's leadership in using generative AI to enrich user experiences.
"Gemini models on Vertex AI are now powering millions of multimodal interactions in the Snapchat app every day that allow Snapchatters to better engage with My AI — with built-in accuracy and safety features," Kurian stated.
The partnership between Snap and Google Cloud, which began in 2011, continues to evolve as Snap incorporates Google CCloud'sAI and machine learning technologies to fuel growth and enhance user experiences.
